A glimpse into the life of a freelancer/staff medical interpreter
Aldina Hanessian is an English<>Spanish medical interpreter in Tucson, Arizona, with 8 years of experience in the field. She will speak about her experience in the road to becoming both, a freelancer and staff interpreter, and what it looks like from both roles. Come and learn about the day in the life of a medical staff interpreter at a hospital and how to handle yourself as a freelancer in other health related medical settings.
Going back to school to switch from teaching into interpreting, Aldina traveled the unknown road ahead of her. She started as an in-house interpreter at Cyracom and then worked her way to remote interpreter with Transperfect; currently, she is a staff interpreter at Tucson Medical Center.
Along the way Ms Hanessian became a certified healthcare interpreter (CHI) through CCHI and also a Tier 1 court interpreter, after passing the written exam for the Arizona State Court Interpreter Certification and is currently working toward taking the oral portion of the exam. She has not only worked as a staff interpreter, but also moved into working as a freelance over-the-phone, and eventually, a face-to-face interpreter.
Come and learn about the ups and downs of working as both a freelance and staff interpreter, through the eyes of Aldina.
During the presentation Aldina will be discussing the following questions, among others:
- What is it like to be a professional interpreter?
- What are some of the biggest challenges/rewards in the profession?
- What is a typical working day like?
Registrants will receive a Zoom invitation by email the day before the webinar.
